Early life and Education

Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani was born on April 19, 1957, in Aden, Yemen, to Dhirubhai Ambani, the founder of Reliance Industries, and Kokilaben Ambani. In 1958, the Ambani family moved to Mumbai, India, where Mukesh Ambani spent most of his childhood.

Mukesh Ambani studied chemical engineering at the Institute of Chemical Technology (formerly known as the University Department of Chemical Technology), Mumbai. After completing his degree, he pursued an MBA from Stanford University, but he dropped out in his first year to assist his father in building Reliance Industries.


Career at Reliance Industries

Mukesh Ambani began his career at Reliance Industries in 1981 when he joined the company as a management trainee. He quickly rose through the ranks, taking on various roles within the company, including heading the finance division, the petrochemicals division, and the oil and gas exploration business.

In, 2002 after his father's death, Mukesh Ambani became the chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries. Under his leadership, the company has experienced tremendous growth, expanding its operations into new industries such as telecommunications, retail, and media.

One of Mukesh Ambani's most significant accomplishments was the establishment of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, a telecommunications company that revolutionized the Indian telecom industry with its low-cost data plans and high-speed internet services. Since its launch in 2016, Reliance Jio has proliferated, amassing over 420 million subscribers and disrupting the market dominated by established players like Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea.


Other Ventures and Investments

Apart from his involvement with Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani has also been involved in various other business ventures and investments. In 2010, he purchased the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket team, Mumbai Indians, which has become one of the most successful teams in the league.
